For quite some time I've dreamed of and prayed to be able to buy a Harvest Right freeze dryer. Our savings and a good sale finally allowed us to order our freeze dryer on Monday, May 31, 2017. It arrived today, Tuesday, June 13th.
Why we bought a Harvest Right freeze dryer:
~ To allow our family be able to make and preserve our own healthy snacks without additives. Two in our family avoid any type of additives and preservatives 100% of the time. One, 100% of the time, avoids white flour, sugar, additives, etc.
~ To be able to preserve our garden harvest when we have access. Our garden is small but sometimes there are extras.
~ To be able to make gifts of freeze dried fruits for family and friends.
We are so excited about the endless possibilities of things we can freeze dry. Some of the things we plan to try as soon as possible:
~ It's currently bing cherry season- my husband's favorite fruit.
~ Ice cream sandwiches- my all time favorite ice cream treat. How much do I like them? When I was in elementary school occasionally my mom would give us a nickel to buy a dixie cup ice cream at lunch time. I saved my nickel till the next time we received another nickel and bought an ice cream sandwich. I love ice cream sandwiches so much that I did this 100% of the time.
~ Lemon Grass Herb- this makes a wonderful tea. The feel of the fresh tea in your mouth is very smooth feeling. I'm anxious to see if freeze dried lemon grass tea tastes the same way.
~ Chocolate Mint Herb- peppermint patty anyone? The mint makes a tasty tea.
~ Lemon Balm Herb makes a good tea too.
~ This morning I made two different kinds of "Puffy Pancakes" for breakfast- strawberry and apple cinnamon. My family has requested that I make some of these to freeze dry.
~ We make our own yogurt. I plan to flavor ours with fresh fruit and make yogurt drops for a tasty treat.
~ We are going to try my daughter's yummy granola recipe but rather than bake it and have granola cereal I want to shape it into bars to see if we can make freeze dried granola bars.
~ Coconut Cream Pie bites with my grandmother's Coconut Cream pie recipe.
~ Turkey ham bits.
~ We have ton of ideas we will be working on!
We'll be posting things that we have tried to freeze dry both on the blog and our YouTube channel
